Many women wonder how often they should visit a gynecologist if nothing bothers them. We asked the advice of the gynecologist of the Kandinsky Clinic and the candidate of medical sciences Victoria Ivakh.

How often do I need to be examined?
Every woman should visit a gynecologist regularly, at least once every 6-12 months, even if nothing bothers her. This is important because some gynecological diseases may be asymptomatic in the early stages.
It is also recommended to undergo regular smear screening for cytology. This method allows you to detect precancerous conditions and cervical cancer at an early stage, which significantly increases the chances of successful treatment.
Liquid cytology of cervical scraping should be performed:
- 21-29 years old - 1 time every 3 years;
- 30-65 years old - once every 3 years or co-testing (liquid cytology + PCR for HPV) - once every 5 years;
- 65 years old - stop screening if the previous test results were satisfactory.
When is it necessary to consult a gynecologist?
You should consult a specialist if you find formations in the mammary glands or in the pelvis, as well as in menstrual disorders, such as:
- painful menstruation,
- Your menstrual cycle is too short or too long.,
- scanty or copious discharge,
- lower abdominal pain
The cause of pain syndrome can be various diseases, including endometriosis, ovulation disorders, uterine fibroids, adnexitis, and others.
Abnormal discharge from the genital tract, itching and burning are also alarming symptoms that require attention. Remember that colorless and abundant discharge from the genital tract is considered the norm.
How is the examination going?
A gynecologist's examination includes a visual assessment of the condition of the external genitalia, an examination of the vagina and cervix in mirrors, a bimanual examination of the pelvic organs, including the uterus and ovaries, as well as an examination and palpation of the mammary glands.
For a more detailed diagnosis, the doctor may prescribe additional studies.:
- Ultrasound examination (ultrasound) of the pelvic organs — allows you to assess the condition of the uterus, ovaries, fallopian tubes, to identify the presence of neoplasms, cysts, fibroids or other pathologies.
- Smears on flora and cytology — they are taken to analyze the vaginal microflora, detect infections, inflammatory processes, as well as for the early detection of atypical cells, which is important for the prevention and diagnosis of cervical cancer.
- Colposcopy — this is an examination of the cervix using a special device (colposcope), which allows you to study its surface in detail, identify erosions, leukoplakia, dysplasia and other pathological changes.
After the examination and carrying out the necessary examinations, the obstetrician-gynecologist will inform the patient about the results and give appropriate individual recommendations.
What should I do if a pathology is detected?
If a pathology is detected on the part of the female genital area, an obstetrician-gynecologist can prescribe additional diagnostic examinations using modern diagnostic equipment available in our clinic to determine further tactics.
You can be sure that, if necessary, you will be prescribed the most effective treatment.
