When to Schedule an Ultrasound?

Preparation for Ultrasound

For most ultrasound procedures, no special preparation is required. However, there are some exceptions:

Abdominal ultrasound:

• Follow a dietary regimen for 1–2 days by avoiding gas-producing foods.
• Avoid fatty and heavy meals the evening before.
• The procedure should be done on an empty stomach.

Kidney and urinary tract ultrasound:

• Drink at least 1 liter of water to ensure a full bladder.

Pelvic ultrasound:

• Best performed on the 5th–7th day of the menstrual cycle.

Breast ultrasound:

Recommended on the 3rd–5th day of the menstrual cycle.
