Saving a Tooth with Gum Recession — Without Extraction or Implant
Problem
The patient developed gum recession, and the tooth became sensitive to hot and cold. Over time, decay formed on the exposed root surface. The situation was complicated by the fact that the lesion was very close to the nerve — without timely treatment, extraction would have been inevitable.
An exposed root quickly accumulates plaque, sensitivity increases, and the risk of inflammation grows. In many similar cases, patients already begin preparing themselves for an implant.
Treatment
Our goal was to preserve the natural tooth. First, we carefully removed the decay and restored the damaged area. Then, we performed gum graft surgery using the patient’s own tissue to cover the exposed root and restore its natural protection.
Result
One year later, the tooth remains vital, and the sensitivity has resolved. The gum tissue is healthy and stable, and extraction was avoided. We successfully preserved the patient’s natural tooth.
